Dental Implants
Dental implants are an alternative to fixed bridges and full or partial dentures for the replacement of one or more missing teeth. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium that is surgically placed in the jaw bone to support a dental restoration that resembles a tooth.
The implant can fuse with the jaw bone through a healing process called "osseointegration." After enough time has been allowed to complete the healing, the restoration will be placed on the implant.
Advantages of Dental Implants
Because dental implants are attached to the jaw bone, they are more stable than dentures itself. Often with dentures, it is difficult to eat and speak well, because they can move about. Dental implants are much like natural teeth, allowing you to speak clearly and chew properly; providing a stable support of your denture and/or removable partial denture.
Another advantage of dental implants is that, with a single implant, there is no need to file down the teeth on either side of the missing tooth for crowns to support a fixed bridge. Hence more conservative.
Dental implants can also improve one’s smile and self-confidence.

Is the Implant Surgery Painful?
Dental implant placement is typically a minor surgical procedure that takes only a short time. The surgery is performed under a local anesthesia or sedation, and the patient should not feel any pain during this time. However, there may be some discomfort and/or swelling for a few days following the procedure. Your dentist will provide post-surgery instructions and may prescribe a pain medication to relieve any discomfort.
How Long Do Implants Last?
Dental implants have been around for awhile and are a tried-and-tested treatment. Approximately 90 percent of modern dental implants have been found to last at least 15 years to life.

Cost of Dental Implants
Cost of dental implant therapy are separated into two phases after initial consultation and treatment plan. The first phase is the surgical phase where the dental implant is placed. The second phase is the restorative phase where the abutment and crown is placed.
Additional costs may include bone and/or gum grafting, if needed. You will typically be given an estimate of the entire treatment cost at the time of consultation.
